Global Alliance for Infant and Maternal Health Research

Advancing research and innovating care for women and infants everywhere.

The Problem

Every seven seconds, a woman or baby dies due to complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or the first month of life—the majority of which are largely preventable. Over 90% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. Beyond survival, an estimated 200 million children under the age of five fail to reach their full developmental potential.

About Us

Based at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, The Global Alliance for Infant and Maternal Health Research (Global AIM) brings together a unique, interdisciplinary team of clinician investigators, data scientists, biomedical engineers, and public health experts. We are committed to advancing the survival, health, and well-being of mothers and infants globally through rigorous research, experiential education, and advocacy.

Our Vision

To end preventable maternal and infant mortality and to optimize the health and potential of every mother and every baby—everywhere.

Our Mission

To lead scientific innovation, transform clinical care, and train the next generation of global leaders committed to the interconnected health and well-being of mothers and infants.

Our Approach

Our transdisciplinary, collaborative research spans the continuum of care from pregnancy through early childhood.  By partnering with global communities to co-design research and translate discoveries to clinical care, we aim to drive sustainable impact in maternal and child health.

Research

At Global AIM, our transdisciplinary research spans the maternal-infant continuum—from pregnancy through early childhood—to address the leading causes of maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality.
